SFMA Level 2 Australia

Course Details

Why SFMA Level 2?

Now that you identified the problem, let's talk about solutions.

This course teaches healthcare professionals how to use the SFMA findings to guide their interventions - from mobility to retraining motor control dysfunctions.

What is SFMA Level 2?

The SFMA Level 2 provides a systematic approach to efficiently addressing both mobility and stability/motor control dysfunctions. It picks up where the Level 1 left off!

The Level 2 Course emphasizes our 3 R's approach - Reset, Reinforce, and Retraining - to restore proper movement. With your SFMA findings, you can prioritize where to start your treatment plan and what the intervention is.

To provide the best Reset, you need to know exactly what's restricting the movement. The Level 2 continues the diagnostic process for mobility dysfunctions with the local biomechanical examination. Our diagnostic algorithm systematically uncovers if there is a joint restriction or a tissue restriction so you can be efficient and apply the most appropriate Reset and then Reinforcement.

How do we change the stability/motor control dysfunctions we identified with the SFMA? Infants develop movement in patterns, not individual muscles. They learn to control movements before they progress to a more challenging posture. Using the neurodevelopmental perspective – how we learned to move as infants – we have developed a model to guide motor control programming to mimic what we learned in our early years.  The Level 2 course provides Retraining philosophy and examples for all the SFMA patterns.

When you leave this course,  you will be equipped with tools to tackle whatever your patient presents with - mobility or motor control dysfunctions. The primary focus of Level 2 is to reinforce the local biomechanical examination process, but also to empower participants with confidence to successfully integrate motor control techniques into their clinical practice.

Who should take the SFMA Level 2 course?

Anyone who has taken the SFMA Level 1 is welcome to attend.

Online Course:

Over 9 hours of self-paced video content. This includes a downloadable course manual and access to the certification exam.

Live Course:

This is a 2-day in-person learning experience. It provides the opportunity for practical labs and instructor interaction. This option includes access to the online course, a downloadable and printed course manual, and access to the certification exam.

Course Objectives:

  • Explain the concepts of Reset, Reinforce, and Reload and where to integrate them into patient care.

  • Review Local Biomechanical Assessments.

  • Demonstrate mobility treatment effectiveness by retesting movement.

  • Describe motor control learning principles.

  • Demonstrate progression of motor control interventions through neurodevelopmental postures.

  • Describe the concept of pattern assistance and its purpose in motor control learning.
